To Vent or Not to Vent?
To vent or not to vent the Model ReModel 2022's attached accessory dwelling unit will take careful consideration, says Symbi Homes CEO Nicole Tysvaer. The topic is widely debated in the building science world, and leaves this Maryland home with two options:
- R-48 open cell spray foam at underside of roof with no soffit or ridge venting
- Dense packed cellulose with a vented soffit, baffles, and open ridge vent
Tysvaer says it’s heating up in the Washington DC area, and homes are experiencing more and more humidity problems – even with 12” of open cell spray foam insulation between the roof and the conditioned space.
